Massive Earthquake Brings More Devastation

A photo of the devastation in Mandalay following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar last Friday

Many of you have reached out to check on our students and families following the news of the catastrophic quake that rocked central Myanmar last Friday. We are grateful to report that most of our students live far north of the epicenter and did not feel the earthquake. We also have many families living in southern Myanmar who felt it but were not injured. Those students are now dealing with aftershocks and power outages as a result of the quake. One of our families lives in a small village closer to the epicenter, and while the children were very frightened, we were relieved to hear that they are safe.

Our Response

In recent weeks we have connected with a small but highly effective organization that partners with local churches in Myanmar to help improve the quality of life for thousands of people who have been displaced by the war. In response to this tragedy their church partners on the ground have identified immediate needs for rice, bedding, mosquito nets, and tarps to shelter and feed the scores of people who cannot return to their homes. We trust the work that these people are doing and have already sent funds to aid their relief efforts.

If you would like to contribute towards earthquake relief efforts, all donations made to Light of the World Club with the designation “earthquake” will be sent to ministry partners on the ground who are loving and serving these victims. You can click on the following link and type “Earthquake” in the box labeled “additional information.”
